WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - Sept. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- What do Microsoft and Daybreakers of Westlake Village Toastmasters Club have in common?  They each launched their organization 40 years ago and both are still going strong.  Microsoft, of course, has become an international leader in its field, while Daybreakers of Westlake Village is one of the 15,400 clubs of Toastmasters International, which is recognized throughout the world for communication and leadership.

Through its worldwide network of clubs, each week Toastmasters International helps more than a quarter million men and women of every ethnicity, education level and profession build their competence in communication so they can gain confidence to lead others. By assisting people from diverse cultures, interests, views and abilities in the development of essential communication skills, Toastmasters International performs a valuable service for its members and the community.

On Tuesday, September 29th, from six o’clock to eight o’clock in the evening, current members of the Daybreakers club will host a get-together at Cal Lutheran University’s Huddle Campus in Westlake Village to commemorate its legacy to the community.   Local officials and past members are invited to attend a celebration that is billed as a “joyous gathering filled with delicious memories, food, drinks and wonderful company.”    Featured speakers will be two of the original members, Charles Heinrichs and John Parkham, who will share memories and anecdotes of the early years.

An aerospace engineering supervisor, Heinrichs joined Toastmasters because “I was challenged by the need to make management briefings and presentations to customers. As a Toastmaster for 40 years, I enjoyed the icebreaker speeches the most.  It’s fun to learn about new members.”

Of note, just two years after Toastmasters’ membership opened to women, Daybreakers of Westlake Village launched the club on October 2, 1975 with 23 members, seven of whom were female.  Although now home to seven clubs, Daybreakers was the only Toastmasters club in Westlake Village for 26 years.

Cal Lutheran’s Huddle Campus is located at 31416 Agoura Road, Westlake Village.  For more information, contact Debby Morgan, the Daybreakers Club President (damorgan@deborahamorgancpa.com) or Kathy Choate, Club Secretary at 805-907-5636.
