PTI Solutions Boosts Service Quality with New Training Center

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sept. 15, 2015 - PRLog -- The world of central office and connectivity infrastructure installation is complex and physically challenging.  PTI Solutions (Pinnacle Telecommunications, Inc.), who has been providing these services for over 30 years, has long been developing methods for preparing their incoming installation force to meet these challenges in the field. Most recently, PTI has constructed a replica of a data rack in its McClellan warehouse location in an effort to give their installation technicians a hands-on, simulative training experience.

“It’s a way to get new people and…people who have been involved in telecommunications installation on the same page, to feel comfortable going into a CO for the first time…and just get familiar with it – a starting point,” said one of PTI’s Engineering experts who spearheaded this project.

The physical setup includes a basic framework, iron work, fiber raceway, cable racks, AC, and various pieces of CO and Connectivity equipment – which the technicians will be able to take apart and put back together.  According to PTI Engineers, the ideal goal is for installer trainees to “be able to build it here, capture the mistakes here, instead of sending them out into the field to make mistakes out there, which can be cost-affecting, [whereas] here we can actually guide them to what they should be doing, so by the time they get out into the field they’re already well-trained to know that they’re already doing it to [our customers’] standard.”  It is a way for someone who is newer to the process to get familiar with the basics in a safe, controlled environment before entering the field.

Furthermore, it also allows engineers, who are typically desk-bound and only have drawings to refer to, to reference a physical CO or Connectivity setup.  “It’s also a great opportunity to allow our techs to grow and evolve their technical skills as installers,” said Lizbeth Zetina, a PTI Program Manager.  "PTI Solutions is dedicated to the professional growth of its employees,” and the goal is for this training facility to help build the skills and knowledge that will allow them to excel and maintain the proficiency needed for the industry’s evolving technologies.
