New CMM Channel Can Reach Six Billion People In Local Languages
One-stop online shop for vital health information around the world
With 3,243 videos designed to save lives in 90 languages now available online on Vimeo, Chocolate Moose Media (CMM) has created the Internet’s most extensive collection of animated public-service announcements (PSA) and shorts for social change in one place.
Designed to better the human condition, the animations include multiple episodes on the prevention of HIV/AIDS (The Three Amigos), malaria (Buzz and Bite), domestic violence (No Excuses), solar energy (The Solar Campaign) and Ebola (Ebola: A Poem For The Living; A Passion For Prevention). Most have humorous elements because animation helps messages cross borders more easily. Collectively, these PSAs have received over 60 international awards.
Each of the videos can be downloaded for free and without use restrictions. The videos are available in high definition, standard definition and mobile-phone formats.
CMM founder Firdaus Kharas started creating these campaigns in the mid-1990s with the goal of getting behavior-change communications to those who most need it in their native languages.
Firdaus Kharas says: “I am very pleased to have so much of my work made available in one place for use by anybody. These animations, created with the assistance of over a thousand volunteers over the years will help make the world a better place.”
This repertoire has been viewed millions of times in more than 150 countries since first created and distributed by tapes, DVDs and the Web over a 20-year period. Kharas hopes these videos will become an important one-stop resource for anyone needing vital information.
The intense work of cataloguing and uploading the animations was an initiative of United Methodist Communications, the global communication agency of The United Methodist Church. Summer intern MacKenzie Fazenbaker was responsible for this potentially lifesaving effort. “The work Firdaus has done is absolutely amazing. These videos are bringing education to people who have never had access to information, in this way, in their native language,” she says.
Further animation videos will be uploaded to the Vimeo channel as they is completed.
