| Crowdfunded magazine celebrates first anniversary with expansion plansiScot magazine - an independent pro-Scotland glossy magazine for Scots, their descendants and friends around the world - is to expand its editorial team and coverage of all things Scottish to mark its first anniversary.
By: iScot magazine Since the beginning of 2015 the monthly publication has been at the forefront of carving out a new independent media for Scotland. In response to demand from a growing section of the population who believe their views are routinely ignored, or even ridiculed by the mainstream media, iScot was set up to create a new high quality publication free from negativity. “Our aim is to produce a professional publication which appeals to a wide domestic and international audience,” said Ken McDonald, co-founder and publisher of iScot. “We want to promote the achievements of Scotland, its people and the Scots diaspora around the world. “Scotland is a dynamic and forward thinking country with a rich a heritage worth celebrating. We are far from being “too poor, too wee or too stupid” to take our place in the world.” IScot magazine, produced in both digital and printed formats, has carved a niche for itself as a pro-Scotland publication providing a wide mix of content. “In the last nine months we have covered a huge range of topics. We have highlighted concerns over fracking, nuclear weapons and political intrigue. We have given a voice to families and campaigners fighting for justice. We have promoted Scottish businesses; championed inventiveness; All of this has been done alongside speculator photo spreads, celebrity interviews, aspirational features and regular columns from the likes of Wee Ginger Dug and Will Macleod’s Letter from America. Even the First Minister has written for iScot. IScot is the only independent grassroots funded pro-Scotland publication available in the shops. Its audience has grown organically every month, mostly as a result of word-of-mouth recommendations and a limited amount of social-media promotion. The magazine has now embarked on an expansion drive to increase circulation and improve coverage by recruiting the services of more journalists, photographers, writers, designers and support staff. “There are numerous topics and subjects which deserve to be covered, investigated and published. Our readers can help us do this by visiting www.iscot.scot and subscribing to the magazine, or making a donation, through our indiegogo crowdfunding appeal,” said McDonald. “We started the magazine in response to demands for an independent media in Scotland. It was launched with donations from ordinary people and by purchasing the magazine they will ensure its continued success.” ends End
