NEW YORK - Aug. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- The Legacy Agency, Inc. (“TLA”), one of the world’s leading athlete representation and sports and entertainment marketing businesses, today announced that Jim Cornelison, the popular national anthem singer for the Chicago Blackhawks, will perform the national anthem of the United States prior to the USA Eagles – Qantas Wallabees rugby match September 5 at Soldier Field in Chicago. The performance will put a cap on the pre-match ceremony as both countries play their final tune-up for the World Cup, which will be held in England and Wales from Sept. 18-Oct. 31. TLA is the co-partner with USA Rugby on the event, with Astellas Healthcare serving as the match’s presenting sponsor. The match will be televised live on NBC Sports Net at 6:30 P.M. CDT.

Australia, who won The Rugby Championship defeating world number one New Zealand last month, is third in the World Rugby rankings, while the USA is ranked 16th.

“it is an honor to be returning to Soldier Field after performing before such an electric crowd for last November’s historic rugby match,” Cornelison said. “Having been exposed to the game for the first time last year I can’t wait to be back, and the city and its sports fans of all ages  are in for quite an international sporting treat again Labor Day weekend in the home of the Bears.”

“We are pleased have a Chicago icon and such a powerful performer in Jim Cornelison joining us again this year like he did for the All Blacks match last year,” TLA CEO Mike Principe said. “This match will be an international celebration of all things positive in sport and culture today, and having his voice open the evening serves as another link between Chicago and the fast-growing sport of rugby.”

Cornelison is in his eighth season as the Blackhawks’ full-time national anthem singer, having made regular appearances singing the anthem at the United Center since 1996 as well as performing at Soldier Field, the 2012 Ryder Cup and many other elite events. A native of Vienna, Va., he sang with numerous opera companies before coming to Chicago in 1995 to take part in the Lyric Opera’s Apprenticeship Program where he was one of six accepted apprentices among more than 800 applicants. He has performed nationally and internationally with some of the biggest names in opera, such as Plácido Domingo and Zubin Mehta. Known as a heroic tenor for the dark color of his voice but ability to sing in a tenor range, he has sung with opera companies in Bordeaux, London, Brussels, and San Francisco, among many other places.

The Eagles will be looking for their first ever win against the Wallabies, with Australia having taken all eight meetings between the two sides. They first met in Berkeley, California in 1912 (a 12-8 Australia win) and most recently met in Wellington, New Zealand at the 2011 World Cup. Their last U.S. meeting was in In October 1993, a narrow 26-22 defeat in Riverside, California.

In addition to presenting sponsor Astellas Healthcare, Smith and Forge, and Emirates Airlines have come on as brand partners for this historic event, all of whom are activating local programs in and around Chicago leading up to the match.
