HOUSTON - Aug. 15, 2015 - PRLog -- "I have danced since I was three years old and wanted to have my own studio since I was twelve. Luckily I am a planner at heart with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, so I knew I could make it happen," stated Autumn Rosemond, the owner of Dance Works Houston. With a great sense of fun and the ability to tell a good story, Rosemond was a recently welcomed guest on Make It Happen with David Lorms, a weekly radio broadcast/podcast that highlights local entrepreneurs and their business and personal journeys.

She has taken dance lessons all her life and minored in dance in college. Why a dance studio? "I know that learning to dance gives kids a real sense of accomplishment and adds to their confidence. That's one reason why we have classes for little ones as young as 18 months. It's a Mommy and Me class and is so much fun," she smiled.

She was a cadet on her high school drill team and also she danced during half time of a Dallas Cowboys football game then. "It was freezing" she laughed. "It's easy to dance in front of thousands of people. It feels right when you're doing something you love."

A fan of competitive dancing, she took private lessons through school and danced her first solo in competition when she was a teenager. "I had dance classes at Texas State as well. I turned some heads when I would run across campus between dance and finance classes. I kind of stood out in my pink tights, shorts and flip-flops during Business Calculus!"

During college she earned an internship with Marriott International. Rosemond told Lorms the experience, which included travel and independent work, gave her both academic and personal knowledge of real business finance. During her senior year, her boyfriend proposed to her early one morning while she was on her way to class. "I said 'yes.' He put the ring on my finger. I said, 'I'm late for class" and ran off," she laughed. "Not the romantic scene he wanted, but we have been happy with each other ever since!"

A born planner, she worked toward and scheduled the opening up her dance studio in Houston to be in 2013. Fate and philosophical thinking came into play in the form of a harrowing accident at sea. She and her husband were jet skiing in Belize and they tumbled off the vehicle. They were separated by yards of ocean before they were rescued. Rosemond continued, "That's when I had that 'what am I thinking' conversation with myself. I didn't want to be a tax consultant. I wanted to teach dancing! My life could have ended any minute without me doing what I really wanted to do!" She left the consultant firm and opened her studio in 2011 --- 2 years earlier than she had planned.

Later the Rosemonds were blessed with the birth of a healthy baby girl. "I taught until I was 36 weeks pregnant and my doctor told me to stop and REST. At times I was uncomfortable, but it kept me active and moving. During the last month and when I came back after the birth, I taught with an assistant. I wanted to be there. Children are so inspiring. I was away for only a month." Their daughter is now 18 months old and ready for her first class. "My husband will be involved and islooking forward to their 'Daddy and Me' class."

Rosemond has held many leading roles as a principal artist in Second Generation, a professional contemporary modern dance company. She has performed at events around Houston and in other areas of the nation and has performed as a guest artist with several companies. "I'll never know everything about dance. I still take master classes and love it all."

A firm believer in community involvement, Rosemond's studio has an after school program with Garden Oaks Elementary and her students dance at many community festivals. She commented, "It's great for these young dancers to perform in front of a crowd. It's building body and personal confidence in children that I most love and performing in front of others is a part of that process. We also sponsor local events and causes."

Her business started off with 2 instructors. As more and more students came to their door, she added more and more instructors. They grew out of that original space, a local community center, and moved into their own spot. Dance Works Houston now has 30 classes scheduled for the 2015 - 2016 season. It is still growing and they are adding new space to accommodate her advanced dancers. Classes are held after work and Saturdays. Registration is going on now, or you can register online. Rosemond added, "If you are interested in learning to dance but are a bit fearful, you'll never know until you try. When you try it, give it your all. No experience necessary. We start at beginner levels for ballet and tap, and we have classes for different age groups."
