July 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Zip-lining is perfect for adrenaline junkies.  The sport will quench that unquenchable thirst for thrills and chills, or satisfy that need for speed, safety is paramount.  While you are zipping through a kaleidoscope of autumn colors, whizzing down cascading whitewashed waterfalls, jumping off a cliff and soaring above a raging river, or flying through the air with the greatest of ease in your own backyard, don't throw caution to the wind.   Every zip-line flight should provide the safest ride and end with a smooth landing at the end of your aerial runway. A safe braking and stopping system is a must, especially for lines with more than a six-percent slope. And, for the DIY backyard zip-liner, installation of the appropriate braking system will ensure excitement and safety for high fliers of all ages and ability.

Zip Line Gear™ offers a number of braking systems that will give you the green light to go for the gusto.

Adding a braking system to your zip line allows for a faster and steeper ride without compromising on safety. And, depending on your skill set or sense for adventure, there are a variety of ways to “put the brakes on.”

There are two categories of braking methods: active and passive. An active brake is one that must be applied by the rider. The passive brake is one that brings the rider to a complete stop without any action on his/her part.

Many zip-line enthusiasts say that giving riders more control over their speed enhances the thrill of the ride. Active brakes also tend to be easier to set-up and can be used in a wide spectrum of zip-lining adventures.

But, for younger, or less skilled riders, passive brakes are generally considered safer. A passive brake will stop a rider even if they are freaking out and unable to stop themselves. Riders will come to a complete stop before they reach the end of the zip line.

·       Zip Line Gear's BrakeHawk is the premier choice in active braking technology. Riders easily slow themselves to a stop by pulling down on the BrakeHawk creating friction between the cable and the brake pads. This model fits Zip Line Gear's ever-popular Douglas Rogue Trolley, and its innovative design is perfect for the Petzl Tandem Speed, Petzl Trac, and Petzl Trac Trolleys.  The BrakeHawk is great for both backyard and commercial zip lines.  While the enclosed brake keeps the rider's hands free of the cable, he/she is still in the driver's seat.   The BrakeHawk Tether is great for young riders too. Little hands and fingers are kept away from the trolley and cable while youngster (or novice) learns the art of braking.

·       When it comes to passive braking, the Bungee Brake system is Zip Line Gear's most popular option, and preferred method for the backyard zip line adventure.  The Bungee Brake works with a mounted padded block on the zip line cable which is attached by a bungee cord to a nearby, adjacent anchor. It absorbs the impact of the trolley before the end of the line and the bungee cord stretches and slows the zip line trolley to a stop.  Bungee Brakes allow the rider to maintain speed until the end of the ride – making for an exciting, but safe flight. It is a foolproof option in stopping any rider.   The Bungee Brake is ideal for use with young children.

·       The Zip Line Gear brand has become synonymous with healthy, easy-to-rig, thrills-guaranteed backyard fun, and rugged backcountry adventure for the more experienced zipper.  And, the Zip Line Gear™ product line includes numerous combo kits and accessories that create a one-stop shopping experience. Many of the kits come with the Bungee Brake system.
