By: IntelliTec College in Grand Junction rise, IntelliTec College HVAC graduates can expect increased employment opportunities. HVAC industry employers on the western slope are clamoring for graduates of this program, which launched in January of 2015. Currently, no other colleges offer HVAC/R training within 300-miles of the Grand Junction area. On average, it takes approximately 18 months of training to complete the specialized HVAC/R training. While enrolled, students begin valuable on-the-job training with apprenticeships. Nate Jones, HVAC/R Program Supervisor at IntelliTec College explains, “A number of students are already apprenticing with local employers. They are able to work in entry-level positions, which only further helps them prepare to sit for certifications.” “We’re proud and excited for the future of the students of the HVAC/R program. This very strong industry continues to hire faster than what can be filled in this gaping market,” said Jones. IntelliTec’s HVAC/R Program Only One Between Colorado Springs and Salt Lake City Marty Roberts of 2H Mechanical in Grand Junction is all too aware of the current high demand and the scarcity of technicians. He fears the shortage of trained HVAC technicians is reaching crisis level, “The lack of technicians nationwide affects our entire infrastructure, placing the country in jeopardy of losing an indispensible industry.” “Our lead HVAC technician visited the new IntelliTec College HVAC facility, and he was impressed with the training and modern equipment. This program is exactly what’s needed in this area,” said Bishop’s Plumbing co-owner, Kristen Davis, of Glenwood Springs, CO. Employers in Colorado and Utah are excited about the HVAC/R technician training in the Grand Valley and are currently contacting IntelliTec College seeking skilled graduates. With a median income of $42,800, it is a very attractive field,” said Dennis Haessly, HVAC/R instructor at Polaris Career Center, Akron, OH. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects growth for the years 2012 through 2022 to be higher than average, above 21 percent.
