PUEBLO, Colo. - Oct. 17, 2015 - PRLog -- IntelliTec College of Pueblo raised and donated a total of $2500 to three local charities: The YMCA (top), The Boys & Girls Club of Pueblo (bottom), and Posada (not pictured).

Pueblo, CO – IntelliTec College of Pueblo raised and donated $2500 from their 2015 Auto Show to three worthy charities. Those charities were Posada, The Boys & Girls Club of Pueblo, and the YMCA of Pueblo. This annual IntelliTec event raises needed funds for local organizations, and it fosters ongoing partnerships between a local college and its community.

Community Involvement Leads to Stronger Civic Relationships

“Many of IntelliTec’s staff and students live in Pueblo, and we believe it is our responsibility to reach out to our neighbors and business leaders. We’re not just here for ourselves; we’re part of this community,” explains Jason Ontiveros, Automotive TechnicianProgram Supervisor.

Campus Director Dr. David A. Scott, Ed.D. recognizes Pueblo’s family-centered focus. “The city of Pueblo is truly a close-knit community. IntelliTec College shares that same relationship, making connectivity to one another integral to each other’s level of success.”

Local Programs Rely on “Investments” of All Types

As one of the recipients of the fundraiser, Melanie Bravo, President and CEO of The Boys & Girls Club of Pueblo, acknowledges IntelliTec’s donation and involvement make all the difference. According to Bravo, “Seventy-three percent of our ‘club kids’ live well below the poverty line. Their parents are the working poor, where one or both work at minimum wage jobs.”

Contributions from local agencies help charities remain less reliant on federal funding and grants. These donations reflect a local investment, and the kids involved in the charities sense that investment. Bravo emphasizes the need for a place like the B & G Club, “We gets 200 kids off the streets everyday; 100 from the south side of Pueblo alone.”

“Our students and staff believe it’s our responsibility to give back to the community. We want them [the community] to know we’re here for them. Just as we produce educated, trained and quality students, we believe that without community we’re really nothing,” explains Ontiveros.

During the recent check presentation to the B & G Club of Pueblo, Bravo shares, “We always have the kids there during check presentations. We want them to know the community is invested in them.” This allows the kids to further “…engage and learn about the companies, plus an opportunity to say thank you,”, adds Bravo.
