LAS VEGAS - April 28, 2015 - PRLog -- Clark County Medical Society (CCMS) announces that it is accepting public and peer-to-peer nominations for the Third Annual Winged Heart Award, now through May 31, 2015. Established in 2013 by former CCMS President Dr. George Alexander, the honor recognizes outstanding nurses and non-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving health care in Southern Nevada.

Nominations are accepted at www.clarkcountymedical.org/Nominations.php, or a form can be downloaded and sent to janice.poblete@clarkcountymedical.org. Nominees will be invited to attend the 60th Anniversary Presidential Installation Dinner & Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the World Market Center – World View on Sixteen & Sky View Terrace (495 S. Grand Central Pkwy, Suite 223) where the winners will be announced.

Dr. Alexander, past president; Dr. Keith Brill, CCMS’ 2013-14 president; Dr. Michael Edwards, 2014-15 president; and Dr. Andrew Eisen, president elect, comprise the Presidents’ Committee and will review award nominations submitted by the public.

Also during the ceremony, CCMS will recognize the recipients of the 2015 Rising Star Award, which honors outstanding medical students who are nominated by the deans of Nevada’s medical schools. Dr. Michael Edwards will keep the long-standing tradition of naming an individual President’s Award, recognizing a select individual who exemplifies being a visionary within the medical community and who has made great contributions to health care in Southern Nevada.

“Every day, nurses and non profits in Clark County work tirelessly to improve the quality of health care in our community.  Clark County Medical Society is committed to raising awareness of these outstanding individuals,” explained Dr. Edwards, a board-certified plastic surgeon at Anson, Edwards and Higgins in Las Vegas.  “With the public’s cooperation in nominating nurses and non-profits, we can recognize a few of the many unheralded heroes in health care.”

Nursing nominees must be currently affiliated with a local practice and/or hospital and must be providing a necessary service to patients on an inpatient or outpatient basis. A non-profit nominee must be a registered 501(c)(3) whose mission is to provide outstanding medical/health care work or to promote wellness within Clark County.

“Nurses are the cornerstone of our medical community and non-profits tackle important local issues that often go unsupported,” said Dr. Alexander, who created the award in 2013. “The Winged Heart and Rising Star Awards are crucial in honoring those who contribute in improving the well-being of Southern Nevada residents, as well as acknowledging the next generation of leaders in the health care community.”

Staff or family members of the judging presidents are not eligible for nomination. Other rules and regulations may apply. Additional details are available at www.clarkcountymedical.org.
