Clark County Medical Society Recognizes Local Medical Students with Third Annual Rising Star Award

“Student Rising Star Award” recipients to be honored at the 2015 President’s Installation & Awards Ceremony on June 27 at the World Market Center in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - June 1, 2015 - PRLog -- The Clark County Medical Society (CCMS (http://www.clarkcountymedical.org/)) recognizes two recipients for its 2015 Student Rising Star Award that honors outstanding medical students studying in Nevada. This year’s recipients are Lindsey Murphy from University of Nevada School of Medicine (UNSOM) and Robert Wills from Touro University Nevada College of Medicine (TUNCOM). The deans of TUNCOM and the UNSOM selected the most deserving students based on their educational accomplishments and their outstanding community service efforts.The students will receive their awards during the 2015 President’s Installation & Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the World Market Center – World View on Sixteen & Sky View Terrace (495 S. Grand Central Pkwy.).

Lindsey Murphy is a third-year medical student at the UNSOM. She has studied internationally in London, Argentina, and Australia. Upon her return to the U.S. in 2010, Murphy worked as a clinical research assistant at the Cleveland Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas and then worked at the Student Outreach Clinic in Reno, a clinic that provides basic health care to medically underserviced residents. In 2015, she was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, National Medical Honors Society and has earned top honors such as Clerkship Honors in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Psychiatry, and Outstanding First Year Medical Student from UNSOM.

Robert Wills is a third-year osteopathic medical student at TUNCOM. He has served on the executive board of the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents and as the president of TUNCOM’s Osteopathic Medicine Student Government Association. Wills is also a member of the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society. He is a committed volunteer for Opportunity Village and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. In addition to serving patients in Clark County, Wills aspires to one day become a professor at TUNCOM and be a part of preparing the next generation of medical professionals.

“It is important that we acknowledge our outstanding medical students for their academic excellence as well as their commitment to serving our community,” said Dr. George Alexander, a CCMS past president and creator of the Winged Heart Award. “Lindsey and Robert excel in their respective fields of study while the community through their philanthropic endeavors. Both have a bright future in medicine and we are honored to have such exceptional individuals join our community.”
