Follow on Google News | ![]() Los Angeles County Math Field Day and STEM FestivalA Contest to Demonstrate Knowledge of Math Through Competition and Celebration
By: Los Angeles County Office of Education Students will compete in three rounds of completion; two (2) team round and one (1) individual round. The team rounds will cover Conceptual Understanding and Problem Solving. The individual round will focus on Computational and Procedural Skills. After the competition ends the students will participate in a STEM Festival, hosted by the Areteem Institute, based in Irvine, California. The STEM festival will present a mixture of science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities to present the fun and practical real world applications for the students to participate and enjoy. The activities include experiments and demonstrations ranging from presentations on Space Technology, a Robotics presentation, an Edible Cooking Demonstrations by professional chefs, Neuroscience Demonstrations, and Solar Experiments. Supporters of the STEM Festival include the Downey Space Center, Kids Talk Radio, Art institute of California, Hollywood, UCLA Brain Research Institute, UCLA Department of Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences. Following the STEM festival, competition winners will be announced. On-site registration for the Math Field Day begins at 7:30am with competitions beginning at 8:45am and running through 10:40am. The STEM festival will start immediately after the conclusion of competition and run until the Awards Ceremony begins at 11:55am with the entire day concluding at 1:00pm.
