VALPARAISO, Ind. - April 24, 2015 - PRLog -- The United Way Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Northwest Indiana has been awarded a grant that will fuel the funding for several RSVP programs in the upcoming year. Funding went into effect on April 1.

In 2012, RSVP received the same grant for Lake, LaPorte and Starke Counties. With that grant, the program was able to take its 68 volunteers and 10 volunteer stations and turn it into 245 volunteers and 40 stations. With its newly-received grant, RSVP is anticipating growing its volunteer base even more.

In addition to the grant, RSVP was recently awarded the Urban League’s 2015 Community Relations Award for its encouragement and support of diversity within Northwest Indiana. The award was presented to Michael Glorioso, RSVP Director, and the RSVP program at the Urban League of Northwest Indiana's 3rd annual Diversity and Inclusion Luncheon.

Glorioso and his senior volunteers provide hours of volunteer work for individuals and families throughout Lake, LaPorte and Starke counties.

Glorioso commented, "We are excited to be a truly regional program and grow the program in the next three years. With this new grant and being awarded with the Community Relations Award, we are more eager than ever to make a bigger impact on our communities.”

RSVP is free to join and is open to anyone age 55 and over. Volunteers receive training, supplemental liability insurance, limited mileage reimbursement, a quarterly subscription to the Leading Times newsletter and the opportunity to attend social, educational and recognition events throughout the year.

If you are interested in volunteering for RSVP or would like more information, please contact Michael Glorioso at (219) 464-3583 (tel:%28219%29%20464-3583) or michael@unitedwaypc.org. You can also find out more about RSVP at www.nwivolunteer.org or www.facebook.com/unitedwayrsvp.

RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and over. Consisting of over 500,000 volunteers throughout the country, RSVP offers a full range of volunteer opportunities specialized for older and more experienced adults. Through RSVP in Northwest Indiana, volunteers match their skills, wisdom and talents with the needs of the community in Lake, LaPorte, Porter and Starke Counties.
