Follow on Google News | Do you want to save the planet? That is the simple question being posed to Sir Richard Branson by Edinburgh based start-up Global Surface Intelligence (GSi) through Virgin Media’s “Pitch to Rich” competition.
“The competition will be really tough but at GSi we are hoping for the support of the public as our business idea isn’t just about making money, it’s also about helping mitigate climate change” said Nigel Douglas the entrepreneur behind GSi. Douglas claims GSi has “developed a novel big data software platform which manipulates vast amounts of satellite data allowing us to more clearly observe and understand our changing planet from space.” The company has already applied this technology to monitor global deforestation and forest degradation and it is hoping to appeal to the public’s and Branson’s green side to help it progress further in the competition by pitching that “a vote for GSi is a vote for the plant”. The Pitch to Rich competition which closes on 5th May, is open to both start-ups and established businesses looking to grow or start new ventures. The public’s most popular ideas will get to pitch to Sir Richard himself in a live finale in London on 26th June.
