‘The Cake Nest’ Celebrates A Delicious First Five Years

HIGH PEAK, U.K. - April 10, 2015 - PRLog -- BANKER  turned entrepreneur Abi Phillips knew only too well that life was never going to be a piece of cake, especially when the worst recession in living memory began to impact the daily routine for the young  mum of two and her family.

However the potential earning power of a beautifully baked piece of confectionary dawned on her, when she saw dozens of her scrumptious home-made slices of cake snapped-up from her stall at a charity event, near her home in the Peak District village of Furness Vale.

“That was when I realized I could create a more comfortable financial future using the skills that my family had passed down to me during my childhood,” said Abi ,who with husband Steve created ‘The Cake Nest’, a fast growing company that posts slices of cake to thousands of sweet-toothed customers every year.

“This is our fifth year in business and Steve and I are determined to celebrate what we have achieved – creating a successful business that sells 500 slices of cake to a growing customer base every week. Each year we make and post 20,000 slices of cake across the UK.”

The concept of the Cake Nest – a service that enabled customers to have slices of fresh and delicious cakes posted to friends and family members to celebrate any occasion including birthdays, anniversaries and many more – took off from Day One.

Initially Abi ran the business single-handedly because Steve was employed as a full time architectural illustrator. However, the worsening recession caused pay cut after pay cut leading eventually to his redundancy. That meant he was then able to work full-time for the business. Eventually he took on the role of Managing Director.

Exposure of the Cake Nest’s winning formula increased dramatically thanks to Social Media. And the business slogan: “Hand-made with love and delivered by your postman” served to catch the imagination of a wide range of new customers.

Abi and Steve were able to employ three part time staff to help with the growing workload. In fact one of the loyal team even commutes across the Pennine’s from her home in Doncaster, which is not an easy feat on a snowy, winter’s day!

“The staff have been very supportive and we’re grateful for that support because ‘The Cake Nest’s success is based on our working together to give the customer the best possible experience,” said Abi. “However, the growth of ‘The Cake Nest’ has been boosted by our regular appearances on New Media.

“The concept of ‘The Cake Nest’ has caught the public’s imagination. They are forever coming up with new ways to use it and swapping their ideas on Facebook and Twitter. And those discussions serve to introduce us to new audiences. It seems there’s no shortage of things to celebrate!

‘The Cake Nest’ is a success story and we plan to mark our first five years here at the office - with cake naturally - followed by a more formal celebration later in the year.”
