March 9, 2015 - PRLog -- James M. Goldberg, who has served for 35 years as NABCA’s general counsel, will step away from the association at the end of June. Counsel Goldberg has decided to reduce his workload as he looks forward to retirement.

Goldberg is a principal in the Washington, DC law firm of Goldberg & Associates, PLLC. In addition to serving as general counsel for NABCA, he represents numerous trade associations and professional societies in a variety of industries and professions. He is a former chairman of the Subcommittee on Trade Associations within the American Bar Association’s Section on Business Law. He received an undergraduate journalism degree from Syracuse University and a law degree from George Washington University.

“I have greatly enjoyed working with NABCA and the control states and I hope I have contributed in some small way to the growth of NABCA during that period,” said Goldberg.

He started working with NABCA in 1980. He advises the organization on all legal issues impacting the association and its governance. Over the years, he has filed several “friend of the court” briefs on behalf of control states in numerous federal courts as well as the Supreme Court.

NABCA President/CEO Jim Sgueo said, “A large part of Jim Goldberg’s legacy will be NABCA’s Symposium on Alcohol Beverage Law and Regulation. Jim has led the program development of the Symposium and been its moderator every year since its inception in 1993. Its success is due primarily to Jim’s efforts. Jim Goldberg is an invaluable team member of NABCA and he is a good friend to us all.”
