Not only is this claim silly, it shows a lack of knowledge on the abundance of science that actually supports chiropractic.

Today I want to share an article that’s actually a few years old.
It’s titled:

chiropractic manipulation in the treatment of acute back pain and sciatica with disc protrusion: a randomized double blind clinical trial of active and simulated spinal manipulations (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16517383).

In this study they compared people who received chiropractic care versus people who got “fake” chiropractic care. You might be wondering what “fake” chiropractic care is. Instead of doing a real adjustment and researchers take the person to the point where the adjustment would happen and before applying the thrust they stop.

Those in pain were given up to twenty adjustments or fake adjustments at five times a week. Patients were evaluated on each visit and at post treatment days of fifteen, thirty, forty five, ninety and one hundred twenty days. They recorded the number of pain free patients at the end of treatment; treatment failure; number of days with mild, moderate and severe pain; quality of life; number of days on non steroidal anti inflammatory medications; number of drug prescriptions; patient’s rating of their pain; psycho social findings; and reduction of disc protrusion measured by MRI.

Adjustments beat no adjustments in pain free cases, radiating pain, number of pain free days, fewer days of moderate and severe pain, and they significantly rated their pain better in patient’s rating.

So what does all this mean? If you’ve got back pain due to disc protrusion there’s a really good chance that you’ll get great results with chiropractic care.
