"Fountain Valley 1972" - True Story Relates the Fallout of a Murder Spree in St. Croix

NEW YORK - Feb. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- As the world’s attention was focused on the massacre of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympic Games, a day later on Sept. 6, 1972, the Fountain Valley Golf Course in St. Croix was invaded by five masked men wielding automatic weapons. Within minutes, eight people, including tourists and resort workers, were killed by gunmen who fled into the surrounding rainforest after firing on eight more people.

The massacre at the Fountain Valley Golf Course was called one of the most vicious crimes “in the annals of Western civilization.” This book tells the story of the aftermath of that day.

Before the shootings in St. Croix, a local Vietnam vet tried to kill two cops while they were arresting a fellow vet who stole money for heroin. Both veterans became addicts while fighting the war. The vet got away, but was hunted by police. He sought refuge in a camp where the author’s brother was being visited by three men. The four were clueless to the vet’s tactics that made the killings appear to be racially motivated. All five were captured, tortured, convicted, and sentenced to eight consecutive life terms.

Says the author, “In 1994, my brother Rafie was released based on his rehabilitation, which included tutoring hundreds of inmates to obtain their high school diplomas. But because the killings had been publicized as a black-on-white crime, his freedom was protested. The backlash caused a local continental prosecutor to block Rafie from attending the University of California at Santa Cruz, and he couldn’t get the counseling job he trained for while in prison. Rafie committed suicide.”
