PARAMUS, N.J. - Feb. 3, 2015 - PRLog -- In honor of black history month, Epitome of Soul has collaborated with Barnes & Noble in Paramus, New Jersey for the 2nd Annual Celebration of African Heritage event. On Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1 p.m., students from the Wharton Music Center- Paterson Music Project, Rosa L. Parks School of Fine and Performing Arts and more will gather to celebrate the contributions of African Heritage to the arts through music, dance and poetry.

Our feature artist this year will be, Christoper Fabor Muhammad, Founder and Director of the Creative Force Alliance for Education through Arts and Culture. His artistry has also appeared in various New York City exhibits including "Art of the Main" and the "Harlem Fine Arts Show." He will be unveiling a new painting and how his work represents the connective experience and history of the African Diaspora.

"We are really looking forward to this year's Celebration of African Heritage. It will be the first year to have elementary age performers, and we're grateful for the opportunity to bridge the gap between them and our high school students. It is important that we celebrate African Heritage and cultivate our young artists. They are the generation who will continue to make a difference in the arts and in our global communities," said Nailah Butler, Executive Director of Epitome of Soul.

The Celebration of African Heritage event is free. To register, please visit epitomeofsoul.org. Live updates of the event will be distributed via Epitome of Soul's social media channels and the hashtag: #ESCelebrateAfrica

Epitome of Soul, Inc. is an award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in June 2012 to provide support and direction to high school performing arts students in Paterson, New Jersey and New York City. The organization was created in response to our concern that too many minority and low-income students were being affected by decreased arts funding due to the high demands of the No Child Left Behind Act. Through educational advocacy, mentorship and scholarship, Epitome of Soul strives to enrich the cultural dynamics of school communities through performing arts.

Epitome of Soul has been recognized for it’s outstanding work in the community through the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Civic Contribution by the Mayor of Paterson, NJ and by the Paterson Great Falls Rotary Club as a 2014 Patersonians Making a Difference beneficiary.
