| IRA's are Breaking Records!!!!Matt Golab discusses how more and more people are putting money into IRA accounts.
By: THE-PR-PROS Well 2014 put up a clear banner showing why we should not neglect investing for the future and the IRA is one that is breaking records as a retirement funds shelter. Last year the IRA celebrated its 40th anniversary and even more impressive is the amount of assets currently held in the accounts. Hitting over $7 trillion and expecting to break past $9 trillion in just a few years. As a retirement advisor this number does concern me and here is why, the majority of this and future increases is expected to come from 401k rollovers. This is a warning to those invested in the market without a fiduciary investment team working for them. The funds being rolled over into IRA's will soon be sent to people's checking accounts and out of the market. These funds were the engine that pushed markets higher and with 10,000 people retiring a day and investments being sold to fund retirement lifestyles will have a frightening affect on the market for the unprepared. Beyond my warning a question arises about eligibility and why more are not participating. Nearly 85% of those eligible are not consistently contributing to an IRA. Your children and grand-children can contribute to an IRA generally until the April tax deadline up to $5,500 if under age 50, the catch up contribution for those over age 50 is $6,500. For those with other employer plans like a 401k can contribute a total of $23,500 between 401k and IRA. This is a great conversation to have with children and grandchildren, it can mean the difference of having a retirement of one's nightmares or a retirement of one's dreams.
