KENT, Conn. - Dec. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- The Morrison Gallery has begun a winter group show that will be on view through January, introducing works by new gallery artists Leah Durner, Vincent Inconiglios, and Insun Kim.

Leah Durner's work includes paintings in oil, acrylic, and gouache on canvas and on paper, as well as works in poured enamel. Her work in poured enamel references psychedelia and process art with deeper roots in the exuberance of the Baroque and Rococo as well as in the modernist tradition of abstraction. Her art occupies the critical space between modernism and postmodernism—between postwar abstraction and post-Duchampian conceptualism and post-Warholian pop.

Durner has had solo exhibitions of her work at Loretta Howard Gallery, 571 Projects, Nye Basham Studio, Wooster Arts Space, Berry College, and Limbo. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Winston Wächter Fine Art, The Convent, Art Gotham, Cazenovia College, Barbara Ann Levy Gallery, Markham Murray Gallery, Steinbaum Kraus Gallery, SoHo Center for Visual Arts, Wake Forest University, and City Without Walls. She lives and works in New York City.

Vincent Inconiglios has been represented in regional and national exhibitions throughout the U.S. and abroad. He had his first New York City one-man exhibition in SoHo in 1972 and was one of the featured artists of “10 Downtown” in the 1970s. His work has been noted by Barbara Rose in New York Magazine, reviewed in ARTFORUM, and is in private and public collections including JPMorganChase, The Norton Simon Collection and AT&T.  He splits his time between his loft and studio in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan and his studio in Falls Village, CT.

The exhibit will include Inconiglios’ “Donut Series” which began in 2004 as an exploration of color, shape and space – a theme that has been present throughout his career. The “Donuts” are brightly colored circular forms painted with acrylic on paper and float on white backgrounds or work within a complex abstract grid.  The title “Donut Series” references the shapes of the works and adds lightness and humor to his study of the circular form. “It is interesting to see which pieces people connect with, and how they respond to different colors and shapes. This series always brings a smile to viewer’s faces,” says Inconiglios.

Insun Kim fabricates tree sculptures made of stainless steel nails, ranging from about 3 feet to 10 feet high. She finds inspiration in nature. “From time to time I will find natural objects that seem to radiate beauty in their own way,” she says. “It is my hope and my aim to merge this natural beauty with my personal experiences to produce an art, my art, which can channel and display both influences together." Kim is a self-taught sculptor with a studio in Beacon, NY.

The spacious Morrison Gallery is in the Old Barn section of Kent near the intersection of Routes 7 and 341. Viewing hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11 AM - 5 PM and Sunday 1 PM - 4 PM.
