Exhibition of New Works by CT Artist George-Ann Gowan Features at The Morrison Gallery Octob

KENT, Conn. - Oct. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Kent, CT – (October 7, 2014) – An exhibition of new works by local artist George-Ann DeVilbiss Gowan will be held October 18th through November 16th at The Morrison Gallery in the Old Barn section of Kent.  The artist will attend an opening reception from 5-7 pm on October 18that the gallery.

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Ms. Gowan graduated magna cum laude with a degree in fine art from the College of William and Mary.  in 1948. The moved to Connecticut in 1970, where she studied with noted watercolorist Edgar Whitney and egg tempera artist Richard Carroll. She has also worked extensively with Russian artist Yuri Vaschenko since 1995.

Most of her work has been primarily in egg tempera and graphite, but recently her focus is turned to bricolage. Her painting won first prize at the Silvermine 49th Annual Art of the Northeast USA competition, among numerous other awards. Several of her works are included in Charles Ewing’s book, The New Scratchboard, Clay-Surface Techniques for Today’s Artists (Watson Guptill, 2001) and her work has been reviewed in Art New England. Two of her graphite drawings were selected by the United States Department of State ART in Embassies Program to hang in the official residence of the US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.

Ms. Gowan was represented by the Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery in Kent until it closed in 2010 and has shown her work at The Howland Cultural Center in Beacon, NY and the Akin Free Library and Museums in Pawling, NY. She has also been a featured artist at Tree’s Place Gallery, Orleans, MA.
