Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- ASD Inc., a PANalytical company, the global leader in high-performance NIR analytical instrumentation and material analysis solutions, today reminds graduate students conducting mining, geology, energy or geothermal related research to submit their proposals for the Students in Mining TerraSpec Instrument Program (http://www.asdi.com/service-and-support/terraspec-students-in-mining) by November 15.

Accepted student proposals will be granted the temporary use of a TerraSpec 4 Hi-Res mineral spectrometer system and The Spectral Geologist (TSG®) Pro mineral analysis software.

Submissions should be unique to the field and do not need to be of immediate practical application or have a guarantee of success. Priority will be given to proposals that extend the frontiers of mining exploration, mining production, energy or geothermal applications.

“NIR spectroscopy has been widely used in the mining industry, and as NIR is being adopted by the energy sector, the program has expanded to include the oil and gas and geothermal fields as well, giving students the opportunity to utilize the advanced technology of the TerraSpec 4 mineral analyzer,”said Chris Sherry, geologist and senior mining market manager at ASD. “This program presents a great opportunity to stimulate innovative research from a variety of mining education disciplines.”

Students who are enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program within an accredited college or university in any country where ATA Carnet documentation for shipments is accepted are encouraged to submit their proposals by the deadline of November 15. Recipients are eligible for up to USD 500 to cover the cost of publication fees and/or travel assistance for the presentation of an accepted abstract at a relevant scientific conference.
