Senior Leaders Form National Network For People Over 50

RALEIGH, N.C. - Jan. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- “It’s 2015, with every baby boomer now over 50, and people 50+ representing one third of the nation’s total population,” said William Zinke, founder of Enrich Life Over 50 (ELO50), a grassroots movement aligning the expertise, wisdom and purpose of people 50+ through a national network of 27 chapters to be unveiled at a pilot meeting in Raleigh on March 14.

“People 50+ are living much longer, contributing more, and leading our country across a transformational bridge that is redefining retirement,” said Zinke, co-author of a landmark 2000 white paper that revealed how the last century’s 30-year longevity increase established a new stage of adulthood from 62 to 85 where people can remain productively engaged. “The conventional concept of retirement, with millions sitting on the sidelines, is economically unsustainable and socially unacceptable.”

A 2014 survey co-sponsored by Merrill Lynch of more than 7,000 pre-retirees reported that 40 percent of people 55+ are working, a level not seen since the 1960s, with 72 percent intending to continue working after “retirement age.” Zinke’s goal is to substantially increase the utilization of this large and growing talent pool, which will have a positive impact on economic growth.

“Companies need to reconsider spending billions on training mostly younger workers, while employees 50+ stay on the job almost five times longer and bring a traditional work ethic to business that millennials don’t have,” said Zinke. “The 50+ workforce has what we call Double ESP™ – experience, expertise, seasoned judgment and proven performance – yet remains under-appreciated and often ignored. The time has come to forge ahead in changing perceptions about aging.”
