Kicked It In Heels 3rd Annual Benefit

 
NEW YORK - Oct. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- New York, NY – Today Dr. Janna Andrews, M.D, founder and executive director of Kicked It In Heels, a breast cancer awareness centered organization, announced details about the non-profit’s yearly benefit. Life After Cancer – Celebrating Survivorship is the third annual breast cancer benefit for the distinguished non-profit and will take place Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Tao Lounge in New York City (located at 369 West 16th Street). The benefit serves to garner support for the overall mission of Kicked It In Heels (KIH): to further the end of health care disparities in breast cancer by focusing on breast cancer survivors, specifically women of color and young women. This year’s event will honor Dr. Sonia Henry for her initiatives in cardiac health after cancer, and Bershan Shaw for her dedication to breast cancer survivors and her URAWarrior platform.   Award-winning journalist Richelle Carey will be serving as host. The 2014 Kicked It In Heels Host Committee members include a diverse group of powerful NY professionals who are committed to creating awareness about breast cancer and how to survive it in style. The members are Tinamarie Clark, Kelli Coleman, Lawrence Dunlap, Michael A. Graves, Kimberley Hatchett, Keeba Williams Henry, Kenny Johnson, Alison Bellino Johnston, Erika Munro Kennerly, Janina Lundy, Aletha Maybank, James McMillan, Aisha McShaw, Karen Pavlin, Traceye Smith, Aulston Taylor, Holly Washington, Cynthia L. Wood

The Katz Institute for Women at North Shore-LIJ has also partnered with KIH this year, supporting  KIH’s initiative to work with hospitals in underrepresented areas. KIH plans to give free mammogram screenings and genetic counseling at select hospitals. After diagnosis, KIH encourages lifestyle adjustments, dialogue, and offers services and workshops designed to focus on fitness, beauty, and wellness. Long term, KIH plans to offer funds toward counseling, prosthesis, bras, wigs, and other fundamentals tools women need as they move toward survivorship.
