Why is the vote important?

One of the best places to live and do business, Raleigh has seen a significant population growth. The side effect: we are number four nationally in poverty growth.

One in seven children in our County is poor. Candidates will debate about core issues leading up to November elections. One thing is clear, per County Health Rankings, collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, engaging children in extra-curricular enrichment is scientifically proven to make a positive impact in their lives.

A local business, STEM For Kids, is founded with the core value of making a positive impact in the local community by paying forward and is engaged in creating sparks of interest in engineering and computer sciences in young minds.

The company regularly contributes to schools’ STEM initiatives with industry speakers and activities. In its first two years of operation, STEM For Kids donated a portion of collected revenue to 40 area schools.

This summer, through its GeeK Scholarship program, STEM For Kids provided camp scholarships to academically gifted students living in poverty.

Moni Singh, Founder and CEO of STEM For Kids, is on a mission to make STEM fun and real for kids. “During my corporate life, visiting factories in US, China and Mexico, I would get excited like a kid in a candy store. Excitement and jobs in STEM haven’t lured many US youth though. We are creating an excitement around STEM for young students because early start is the key. We have made progress and know that it is a long journey ahead.”

To fuel that long journey, STEM For Kids has applied for a grant from Chase as part of a newly launched program, Mission Main StreetSM Grants. Eligibility requires 250 votes. Customers, fans and community members can show support for STEM For Kids by voting at MissionMainStreetGrants - https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/2... by using Facebook Connect before October 17th 2014.Votes are anonymous and a user can vote for multiple businesses if they so desire.
