| ![]() “Like It, Love It, Gotta Have It” – Autumn Group ExhibitionDebuts at James Ratliff Gallery, Hillside Sedona, Arizona November 7
from James and Patricia Ratliff tellow devotees and connoisseurs of art, will debut at James Ratliff Gallery, Hillside Sedona, 671 State Route179, Suites A-1 & A-2, Sedona, AZ 86336, Friday, November 7, with an opening reception from 5-8 PM. This unusual group exhibition of artists from the stable of the James Ratliff Gallery reveals the two-way street in the process of identifying, exhibiting, selling and collecting art: likeability, the siren call to the spirit, and ultimately the passion “to have it”. The function of the gallery owner is to have the vision to recognize an artist’s worth, to cultivate that relationship and ultimately to exhibit for the viewing pleasure and investment opportunity presented to the public. With more than 50 years in the business, James Ratliff’s art pedigree is one that has been a generous one of mentoring the spectrum of contemporary artists he r epresents with an eye to balancing the creative expression of the artists with the specific tastes of the art collector, experienced or novice, investor or home decorator. The common outcome is growth for each of these parties. It’s a delicate balance, one which changes as each party’s priorities evolve. In addition to the panorama of artists in the James Ratliff Gallery, representing media of landscape, abstract, figurative, sculpture, pottery and jewelry, November’s group show will include the introduction of California artist, Francine Markoe. Patricia Ratliff explains: “Markoe’ actual thin slabs of rocks attached to some and lots of texture with small pebbles, etc. I love most of her paintings.” Since Markoe incorporates earth elements actually into the body of her work, it’s not surprising she regards herself as an environmental artist. Markoe in her own words “When viewers see my work, I hope they sense a love of the natural environment, desert, mountains, ocean, the vast sky, even the cosmos.” Markoe’s self-described process "I paint spontaneously, trying to capture fluid motion and energy. On both medium and large formats, I like to use bold acrylic colors to create dynamic patterns which seem to erupt from the canvas with volcanic force. In some of my mixed media work, I place color over prepared surfaces of different substances or I incorporate pieces of natural rock and stone to heavily textured surfaces.” For further information about this autumn group exhibition, contact James or Patricia Ratliff, James Ratliff Gallery, www.jamesratliffgallery.com, phone 928- 282-1404, e-mail: FineArt@jamesratliffgallery.com, or consult the web site: www.jamesratliffgallery.com.
