Small Business Day in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Sept. 26, 2014 - PRLog -- Jeffrey Bean from the U.S. Conference of Mayors presents Mayor Bill Finch with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Partner America 2014 “Small Business Advocate Award” for his efforts and support of small business in the city.

The conference rooms of Margaret E. Morton Government Center were filled with small business owners and entrepreneurs on Tuesday, as the U.S. Conference of Mayors and PartnerAmerica presented Mayor Bill Finch with the “Small Business Advocate” award for his efforts and support of small business in the city.

This recognition ceremony was a part of a Small Business Day event hosted by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the City of Bridgeport.

“Mayors across the country are investing in the future by helping small businesses to grow and create jobs,” said Tom Cochran, U.S. Conference of Mayors CEO and Executive Director. “Mayor Finch is a leader in this arena, and his tireless work to expand job opportunities and revitalize the Park City through small business development are to be applauded.  We are honored to bestow him with this award.”

Along with Mayor Finch, speakers included Deborah Caviness from the Mayor’s Office of Small and Minority Business who discussed local programs and resources available to small business owners. Sheila Hummel, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development discussed the state’s Small Business Express Program. Bernard Sweeney from the U.S. Small Business Administration, and Paul Timpanelli from the Bridgeport Regional Business Council also spoke to the group. Lou Mosca, Executive Vice President and COO, American Management Services served as the event’s keynote speaker.
