Comedians for Critters Pet Benefit and Kick-Off Event

MILWAUKEE - Sept. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- At the end of April of 2012, ambitious pet owner, Joal Derse Dauer, went to an animal shelter to donate blankets when she caught a glimpse of a very cute dog as she was walking out. She asked a volunteer what the injured dog with the beaming eyes’ story was, and they told her that “Sadie”, who had just been brought up from Kentucky, was found in the mountains where, after having a litter of puppies, was shot between the eyes and in the back and left for dead. Sadie was urinary incontinent, fecally incontinent and paralyzed.   She was advised to do the “kind thing”, but Joal saw life Sadie’s beaming eyesand was determined to give her a second chance.  Joal took Sadie to see Dr. Jodie at the Animal Doctor who agreed that they should give Sadie a chance, and so they did. Sadie had the bullet removed from between her eyes along with a cyst from her tail.  The bullet and shrapnel in her back are too deeply embedded to remove. After recuperating for a few weeks from surgery, Sadie’s rehabilitation started in earnest.  Sadie receives daily exercises as well as numerous therapies to help teach Sadie how to walk again. Her treatments are ongoing and her prognosis is “unknown”, although she continues to make progress every day.  She is no longer urinary or fecally incontinent.  Sadie is a very happy, healthy dog who shows no evidence of remembering her past.  People who meet her fall deeply in love with her instantly.  She has supporters from all across the United States and from 11 other countries.

On Sunday, October 5, 2014, Sadie and Integrating People for Animal Wellness (iPAW) will be partnering to present a kick-off fundraising event at the historic Shank Hall located at 1434 North Farwell Avenue in Milwaukee called “Comedians for Critters”, featuring the nationally-touring, award-winning, Dobie Maxwell and friends. Join us for laughs and help us kick off iPAW! This comedy show and pet benefit will be featuring the nationally touring, award-winning Dobie Maxwell from the Dented Can. Come enjoy the silent auction, raffle, food, fun, and even meet Sadie of SavingSadie.com! The vision of iPAW is to provide funds for refuge for special needs pets and to be a financial and educational resource for all animal lovers. iPAW aims to improve the quality of life and longevity of animals as well as decreasing the occurrence of unwarranted euthanasia.  A collective effort by integrating people with similar mind sets will be most effective at accomplishing this goal.
