By: The Saint Bernard Pass Charitable Foundation Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue ( http://www.lchpr.org ) is a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates abused horses and ponies. At the head of Last Chance is a remarkable woman named Sharron Allen. She and her family, along with their faithful group of volunteers, are the substance that holds together this Crystal Beach facility. The hours are long and the days tend to run out before the work does. Still, Last Chance is more than a place for horses…it’ The manpower to paint the barn's interior was provided by the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who came out in full force thanks to former City of Port Colborne Mayor Neil Schoen. The work could not have been completed without their help and the generous paint equipment donated by Home Depot of Niagara Falls. Like the horses of Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue, Loop Paint (http://www.looppaint.ca ) takes in what has been discarded by others and creates something that is simply beautiful. Loop is Ontario's only recycled paint brand, which takes leftover paint from the province’s garages and basements, sorts it by quality and color, tests it to make sure it's at least a mid-grade paint and then repackages it in a spectrum of vivid colours for Ontario retailers. These consistent colors are then tested for quality according to industry standards such as sag, opacity, coverage, and durability. Every batch must have a small portion of new material such as color pigment to ensure quality and consistency. The reprocessed paint is then packaged and delivered to retailer's province-wide and sold at a savings to the end consumer. “Before we spoke to Loop Paint, I actually used the product and found it to be exceptional” Through Christina Saint Marche’s foundation, Last Chance is getting a financial “look over.” “Our goal is to draft a plan whereby Last Chance can own a permanent facility. Once we have a full plan, Saint Bernard Pass will see if it can help execute the financial aspect of it. Non-Profits are no different than businesses in today’s economy. Profit is not a bad word and thus, each non-profit must be structured in a way so that it can support itself at some point without government intervention, as funding has all but dried up for programs like Last Chance has. This isn’t my first ‘rodeo’ so I’m confident we will be able to make a difference as we continue to prove ourselves with the Last Chance board of directors” commented Saint Marche. For now, the freshly painted barn has made Last Chance’s future look a bit brighter. END End
