ST. CATHARINES, Ontario - Sept. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Although it was a rainy day, somehow the sun seemed to be shining inside the main barn of Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue.  For Pokey, Hope and the other rescue horses, it was a day filled with good karma as friends came to help freshen up their stalls and barn.  A couple of companies and a church came forward to make their living conditions a little bit better and as the day came to a close, the results could easily be seen in the horses’ reactions as they re-entered their stalls.

Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue ( http://www.lchpr.org ) is a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates abused horses and ponies.  At the head of Last Chance is a remarkable woman named Sharron Allen.  She and her family, along with their faithful group of volunteers, are the substance that holds together this Crystal Beach facility.  The hours are long and the days tend to run out before the work does.  Still, Last Chance is more than a place for horses…it’s also a place for people to come “to rescue each other.”  A person can feel it in the air as soon as they walk through the gates and begin to interact the horses.  For all those who come and help, there is a feeling of “belonging,” as the facility has become a part of many people’s lives over the years.

The manpower to paint the barn's interior was provided by the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who came out in full force thanks to former City of Port Colborne Mayor Neil Schoen.  The work could not have been completed without their help and the generous paint equipment donated by Home Depot of Niagara Falls.

Like the horses of Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue, Loop Paint (http://www.looppaint.ca ) takes in what has been discarded by others and creates something that is simply beautiful. Loop is Ontario's only recycled paint brand, which takes leftover paint from the province’s garages and basements, sorts it by quality and color, tests it to make sure it's at least a mid-grade paint and then repackages it in a spectrum of vivid colours for Ontario retailers. These consistent colors are then tested for quality according to industry standards such as sag, opacity, coverage, and durability.  Every batch must have a small portion of new material such as color pigment to ensure quality and consistency. The reprocessed paint is then packaged and delivered to retailer's province-wide and sold at a savings to the end consumer.

“Before we spoke to Loop Paint, I actually used the product and found it to be exceptional” stated Christina Saint Marche, Managing Director of the Saint Bernard Pass Charitable Foundation.  “I took a tour of the operation and was impressed by their employees and the company’s commitment to a ‘recycled green’ product.  Loop Paint is one of those success stories that people are just beginning to hear about in the retail and financial world.  Last Chance is fortunate to be the recipient of such a donation from Loop Paint who is a responsible and loyal company to the North American eco-community” stated Saint Marche.

Through Christina Saint Marche’s foundation, Last Chance is getting a financial “look over.”  “Our goal is to draft a plan whereby Last Chance can own a permanent facility.  Once we have a full plan, Saint Bernard Pass will see if it can help execute the financial aspect of it.  Non-Profits are no different than businesses in today’s economy.  Profit is not a bad word and thus, each non-profit must be structured in a way so that it can support itself at some point without government intervention, as funding has all but dried up for programs like Last Chance has.  This isn’t my first ‘rodeo’ so I’m confident we will be able to make a difference as we continue to prove ourselves with the Last Chance board of directors” commented Saint Marche.

For now, the freshly painted barn has made Last Chance’s future look a bit brighter.
