| ![]() NAPSR news: Novartis Maintains Solid Earnings & Revenue for Second QuarterAs one of the industry leaders in the healthcare sector, Novartis retains a positive Q2 report.
By: NAPSRx Pharmaceuticals net sales reached USD 8.2 billion (+1%, +1% cc) with volume growth of 5 percentage points and a positive price impact of 2 percentage points. Growth products generated approximately USD 3.4 billion growing 15% compared to last year. These products include: Gilenya, Afinitor, Tasigna, Galvus, Lucentis, Xolair, the COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) portfolio[2] Alcon posted net sales of USD 2.8 billion (+3%, +4% cc) in the second quarter, led by growth in Ophthalmic Pharmaceuticals and Surgical, coupled with strong Emerging Growth Markets performance (+6%, +10% cc). Surgical Sales grew due to strong device and equipment sales and the launch of Alcon's new Centurionphacoemulsification cataract platform, and the LenSx femtosecond laser system for cataract surgery. Ophthalmic Pharmaceuticals grew (+3%, +4% cc) and Vision Care grew (+2%, +1% cc) due to solid contact lens sales growth. Sandoz net sales were USD 2.3 billion in the second quarter, increasing 5%. Asia (excluding Japan) delivered double-digit sales growth (cc), while Central and Eastern Europe and the US grew at a high single-digit rate. Japan displayed double-digit sales growth. German sales of retail generics and biosimilars grew 1%.
