Authors Make Tomato Festival a True Treasure
The upcoming FREE Grainger County Tomato Festival will feature many local authors that will autograph their books as well as numerous arts and crafts.
Some of the better known authors from the area are Joe Moore, author of the Santa Claus Trilogy, including the newly released Glaciers Melt & Mountains Smoke, Sam Venable popular author of Warning! This Product Contains Nuttiness, and How to Tawlk and Rite Good, Lin Stepp, author of the newly released Down by the River, and Chef Walter, master chef and WVLT personality will be there with his cookbooks.
The completely free Festival is in its 12th year and had roughly 20,000 attendees last year. The festival certainly emphasizes the local farming heritage of the local growers and is considered the best place to acquire natural healthy tomatoes and other vegetables by the thousands.
But that's just the beginning, Author Joe Moore raved about the best cobbler and homemade ice cream he ever ate. Many of the nearly 20,000 people came for the infamous tomato wars, which now take place on both Saturday and Sunday
While some visitors enjoyed the Civil War costumed soldiers, and looking up ancestor information from the Civil War, others enjoyed the old time tractors, the apple butter making demonstrations, herbal remedies, a working blacksmith, the fine arts and crafts, and...well, there is just a lot to do.
Whether people want to do some canning, start whittling down on their Christmas list, seeking that special something for their home, or are just looking for something fun and interesting for the entire family, Rutledge is the place to go on the last weekend of July.
The Arts and Crafts area and the authors will be autographing their books on Friday, July 25th from Noon until 4pm, Saturday from 9am until 7pm and Sunday from noon until 5pm. For more information visit: http://graingercountytomatofestival.com or http://thenorthpolepress.com.
