Destination Trinidad is part of Go Eat Give’s monthly programs that raise awareness of countries through local restaurants, artists and speakers.

Often called the rainbow island, Trinidad has one of the most diverse populations in the world, as a result of colonization and labor importation. There is a wide range of ethnicity, religion, and culture centering on Roman Catholic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church), Anglican (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglicanism), Muslim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim) and Hindu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu) faiths. Over the past two decades, the number of Trinidad nationals living in Atlanta has grown eight-fold from just 3,000 in 1990 to over 25,000 today. Many of them immigrated for higher education, and work as medical professionals and entrepreneurs.

The event will feature traditional Trinidad cuisine, music and culture. A buffet dinner showcasing 18 authentic dishes will be served. Guests will be able to taste East Indian, Africa, Spanish, Chinese and Caribbean flavors that influence the island’s gastronomy. Alan Nottingham, former president of the Trinidad and Tobago Association will present Trinidad’s society, culture and economy in his keynote speech. Trinidad cultural ambassador and stand up comedian, Nigel Fabien will be the master of ceremonies.

The evening will conclude with a performance of Tassa steel drumming and Carnival costumes.
