Serenity at Naukuchiatal in the Lap of Himalayas

DELHI/NCR, India - June 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Himalayas add glory to India for being the largest mountain range in the world. They stretch from the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir to the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and kiss parts of Nepal somewhere in the middle of their vast stretch. There is another state in India known as Uttarakhand, which has some of the most beautiful hill stations, such as Naukuchiatal, Nainital, Almora, etc. constituting a fraction of the gigantic Himalayas. Naukuchiatal is serene, secluded, and perhaps, not well-known among the popular Himalayan hill stations of India.

The word "Naukuchiatal" means a pond having nine corners. A boat-trip on Naukuchiatal reveals the 9 corners of the pond as all 9 corners are not visible when standing at any one of these corners. Since there are not so many tourists in the area, the place is relatively calmer than the neighboring hill station of Nainital, which remains busy during the summer holidays. Those tourists who like to enjoy nature without being disturbed by the noise of vehicles or the persistent calls from the street hawkers in Nainital would surely find their stay in Naukuchiatal relaxing and rejuvenating.

Naukuchiatal is accessible by road only after alighting from the train at the Kathgodam station, which is about 24 km from Naukuchiatal. Taxis are available at the station for reaching Naukuchiatal. While going from Kathgodam to Nainital, you can take a turn on the road going toward Bhimtal and then drive up the slope for another 4 km to reach Naukuchiatal. The landmark for Bhimtal is an island restaurant located in the middle of the pond known by the same name - Bhimtal.

If you like walking, then the 4-km-walk from Bhimtal to Naukuchiatal is a breathtaking experience. The scenery on one side of the road shows the Himalayan hills at a distance, and a peep down the valley shows inhabited land with houses and step-down farms growing the staple crops. On the other side of the road, another Himalayan wall hugs so close to you that you feel like a tiny creature in front of the majestic appeal of this mountain. Here, you find only flower-and-fruit-bearing, green trees as your companion. You may fall in love with the natural habitat instantly, but the journey must continue toward the pond with 9 corners – Naukuchiatal, which you must explore on your own.
