BRADENTON, Fla. - June 2, 2014 - PRLog -- The Anna Maria Oyster Bar – a locally owned, multi-award winning restaurant with three area locations – is proud to host a luncheon in honor of our WWII veterans at their Landside restaurant, located on US41 north of the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport at 6906 14th St. West, Bradenton. The event takes place on June 6, 2014, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. WWII veterans who wish to participate are asked to contact Nicole at 941-761-7797 for reservations.

“We are counting on some great stories from our beloved vets,” said John Horne, owner of the Anna Maria Oyster Bar. “For instance, Bob Schweiger, who landed on the beach on D-Day, will be there. So will Tom Bozza, the sailor who ‘was next in line to kiss the nurse’ in that infamous cover picture from LIFE magazine in 1945.” Louie Senn from Clemson, South Carolina, John Horne’s own great-uncle who landed on Normandy Beach D + 4, will also be in attendance.

On June 6, 1944, Allied Troops landed on the shores of Normandy with more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft to support the D-Day Invasion. By day’s end, the allies had gained a foothold in Normandy. More than 9,000 allied soldiers were killed or wounded, but these brave men were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom.
