Stand Your Ground Short Film Launches IndieGoGo Campaign

LOS ANGELES - April 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Trayvon Martin was shot and killed two years ago while walking back from a convenience store carrying skittles and an iced tea, but no gun. Jordan Davis was shot in a car filled with four teenagers after a dispute over the volume of their music, no gun was found in the car. Both incidents have shed a national spotlight on the Stand Your Ground Law, which removes any duty to attempt retreat before using deadly force in purported self-defense.

STAND YOUR GROUND, a short film that examines cultural biases and family values mirrors the recent tragedies of alleged hate crimes and violence that have affected a nation, leaving us with jilted questions of “What if’s…” What if it was my child? What if the child was of a different race? What if it was the economic status of the home? What if it was the neighborhood?

The team behind the short film is packed with star power. Kendra C. Johnson of Tyler Perry’s 'Love Thy Neighbor' on OWN - The Oprah Winfrey Network, serving as an executive producer; Shenita Moore of 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'In Plain Sight' and 'Rizzoli & Isles' fame producing and starring in the film; and Shavar Ross, best known for his recurring television roles as Dudley Ramsey in the NBC sitcom 'Diff'rent Strokes,' and as Weasel in the ABC sitcom 'Family Matters' stepping behind the camera to direct.

STAND YOUR GROUND, written by Joel P.E. King, is a drama that mimics perspectives of the social injustice and race relations that we so heavily speak. This thought-provoking film will encourage the heart, lift the spirit, and give the audience something to think about.

The producers recently launched an IndieGoGo campaign, a source for crowd funding, in an effort to finance the production of the film and release it for film festivals. The campaign is set to run until May 19, 2014. Perks include DVD's, your name in the credits, signed cast photos, an opportunity to visit the set in August 2014, and even the opportunity to be an executive producer!
