By: YMCA of the East Bay The Downtown Oakland YMCA - located at 2350 Broadway (9:00am-1:00pm) The M. Robinson Baker YMCA - located at 3265 Market Street in Oakland (10:00am-2:00pm) The E.M. Downer Family YMCA - located at 263 South 20th Street in Richmond (11:00am-2:00pm) The Fremont/Newark YMCA - located at 41811 Blacow Road in Fremont (begins at 10:00am) [Oakland, CA, April 24, 2014] – On April 26, the YMCA of the East Bay will celebrate Healthy Kids Day® with free community events for kids and families at their Oakland, Fremont and Richmond locations. More than 1,500 Ys across the country are taking part in the celebration, meant to kick-start physical activity and learning throughout the summer – a critical out-of-school time for kids. This year the Downtown Oakland Y, located at 2350 Broadway, will hold their Healthy Kids Day activities from 9:00am-1:00pm. Activities include: a family triathlon (free pre-registration required) and the Y sports center (including basketball & soccer). A free resource fair will also be in full effect with informational tables from Lifelong (http://www.lifelongmedical.org/ In addition to the activities at the Downtown Oakland Y, the M. Robinson Baker Y, located at 3265 Market Street in Oakland, will hold their Healthy Kids Day activities from 10:00am-2:00pm. Activities include: family Olympics, face painting, gardening activities and more. An educational fair will also take place with information tables from 100 Black Men (http://100blackmenba.org/) The E.M. Downer Family YMCA, located at 263 South 20th Street in Richmond, will hold their Healthy Kids Day activities from 11:00am-2:00pm. Activities include: a fitness passport program, a family wellness walk, rock climbing, Jewel’s cheer & tumbling, free face painting, board games and jumpers. A free health fair will also be available with tables from Kaiser Permanente (http://www.kp.org/) And lastly, the Fremont/Newark Y, located at 41811 Blacow Rd. in Fremont, will hold a Healthy Kids Day “Put Play in your Day” carnival beginning at 10:00 am. Several different vendors will be in attendance to offer information on healthy eating for kids K-12 and promoting the Fremont Healthy Start initiative (http://www.ebac.org/ As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day (a national Y initiative) to teach healthy habits and inspire a lifetime love of being healthy from head to toe.
