April 18, 2014 - PRLog -- In a rebounding economy and a period of tighter lending practices, the biggest barrier to new promoters is raisng the money to produce their events. Hal Davidson, a Maryland based concert and festival producer, consultant and author has seen one project after another stalled or halted due to lack of funding.

"Raising adequate start-up funding for today's substantial budgets required to launch a major event, is like climbing Mount Everest the first time. It's a life-changing learning experience, many times resulting in frostbite and failure."

Davidson says "you better know how to write proposals and complete a budget and revenue sheet". "Many entering the business don't comprehend the need to have basic commuications, english and math skills. It's a profession which takes years of aprenticeship or falling on your face on smaller club type parties."

His new website, concertpromotions.org helps the new promoter examine his funding options and offers a snapshot of reality when attempting to secure the right investor. The right protocol, relationships and what not to do, has to be taken into consideration before taking the plunge. "It's harder than you think."

With the explosion of music festivals globally and many dreamers seeing the glory and huge grosses involved with festivals, many believe they can do it without any experience in any of the many fields related to the industry; box office/ ticketing, security, marketing, event administration, stage production, venue management, talent buying, staffing, accounting, contracts, logistics, etc.

There is far more to putting on any professionally staged concert or music festival than most think, who may have simply attended events over the years, saying "I can do that". "Doing it well and seeing it from a seat are two completely different paradigms." Davidson said...

"Promoters without support systems or relationships or minimal seed funding ($5,000-$20,000), or at least a job to power the most basic of proposal stage needs, do have a chance, but the less you have to start, the more you need in basic business skills. Without those, it will take a miracle or winning the lottery, which carries odds of about 275 milllion to 1." Davidson said.

Hal Davidson consults with promoters from all over the world. He also publishes the most comprehensive books available on promoting concerts and music festivals at www.concert-promotions.com.
