Weaknesses of Air ionizer: Does not collect many airborne particles, although air ionizer is able to remove bacteria and viruses, but it does not kill them.  Odors can’t be eliminated by air ionizer.

c)     Removal of odors and chemical fumes: Activated carbon air filters and Ozone Generators.

Activated carbon air filter highly effective in capturing chemical fumes, cigarette smoke, odors and would not released them back into the air. Ozone effective in destroying certain odor-causing bacteria and highly effective against strong odor (certain circumstances).

Both of the technologies do not act effectively against dust and mico-organism.  Ozone may cause eye, nose and throat irritation if in high concentration.

d)     Removal and destruction of microorganism: UV Lamp

UV lamp is able to destroy micro-organism that pass through the bulb such as bacteria, fungi. However, it has no effects on dust and particulates, odors and chemical fumes.

Operation noise, replacement cost and electrical consumption.

It is important in considering the noise produced by the air purifier during operation so that it will not be distracting. Replacement costs for the components of the air purifier and the electrical consumption should not be neglected in deciding the air purifier that fits your need.
