Follow on Google News | Langport Charity gets a £5000 boost from Richard BransonMuch Thorn Flood Wings receives a generous donation from Richard Branson’s Charity “Virgin Unite” to assist those flooded on the Somerset Levels.
Nominated by her colleague Jess Elliott, Clare has been recognised on ITV Daybreak as one five Flood Heroes across the UK. Following the floods, Clare set up a charity from her Café and the “Much Thorn Flood Wings” Charity was born to help those affected by the floods. The funds raised helped residents of Muchelney and Thorney pay for the fuel needed to transport residents in and out of the villages. Most of the tractors and support vehicles that allowed access to these villages were supported by the local farmers, who were already bearing the brunt of flooding costs. Not content with just raising money, Clare and her team spent much of their time cooking and distributing meals, and encouraging and organising volunteers. Clare is absolutely delighted to accept a cheque for £5000 for her charity from Richard Branson, as a token of his appreciation for all her work. Clare said, “I was overwhelmed with the fabulous response from everyone. To start, we all felt so helpless to assist those in need. We are delighted to add this very generous donation from Richard Branson and help those affected by the floods”. Clare has just returned from a trip to 10 Downing Street on Monday 7th April 2014. Clare was also nominated in the “Western Gazette Pride Awards” and is a finalist in the Charity Champion Category.
