SARASOTA, Fla. - March 19, 2014 - PRLog -- In 2013 we lost 1,004 rhinos – that’s a loss of 3 per day to the unconscionable slaughtering by poachers. South Africa is home to 83% of Africa’s rhinos and 73% of all wild rhinos worldwide. Therefore South Africa is an incredibly important player in rhinoceros conservation efforts and in preventing the Big 5 from becoming the Big 4. Rhino poaching has reached a crisis point, and if the killing continues at this rate, we could see rhino deaths overtaking births in the near future, meaning rhinos could soon go extinct.

This poaching is predominantly fueled by the illegal trade in rhino horn; globalization and economic growth has made it easier to establish illegal trading routes. The current poaching crisis is attributed to the growing demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, where horn is believed to have medicinal properties. The high price fetched for the horn has attracted the involvement of ruthless criminal syndicates who use high-tech equipment to track down and kill the rhinos.

These helpless animals can’t fight back, but we can.Go Touch Down Travel & Tours (http://facebook.com/gotouchdowntravelandtours) is committed to Save the Rhinos. We encourage you to help us support our latest charity, The Blue Sky Society. Their campaign, the One in a Million crowd funding project, is a fabulous way for all of us to get behind them.

Their goal is to raise one million dollars to be used for technology, equipment and manpower to win the war on poaching, and includes establishing an orphanage for rhinos whose mothers have been killed.

How can you help?  It’s simple. Just ‘Like’ us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/gotouchdowntravelandtours/) and we will donate 25 cents (R2, 50) on your behalf to this desperate and critical cause. After you have ‘Liked’ us, spread the word and do the math. Together we can make a difference.
