GOLETA, Calif. - March 12, 2014 - PRLog -- Ramona Moreno Winner, award winning author of children’s bilingual books and author of upcoming middle grade book:  Global Cultural Trivia, speaks to educators on their need for Cultural Diversity Workshops at their school districts.

“Attending a National Association for Bilingual Educators conference February 12-15, 2014, in San Diego, CA, I met hundreds of teachers, librarians, and administrators looking for new resources and innovative ideas to facilitate the education of bilingual and multicultural students.  After introducing them to my English/Spanish titles for elementary grade students, I told them about a Cultural Diversity Workshops I offer to school districts wanting their teachers to learn how to incorporate cultural learning into existing core curriculum.  Eyes flashed, heads nodded and many said this was sorely needed at their school district.  Off they went with a postcard describing the workshops.” Said Ramona.

“It was interesting to note that cultural learning meant something different to each individual I spoke with.  Cultural learning meant confronting prejudices to one educator and celebrating diversity to another.  While the reasoning for diversity training was varied, all educators I engaged with were excited to talk about their own culture and the culture of others while daring to explore biases. “ Said Ramona.

Since 2012, Mrs. Winner has been presenting Cultural Trivia to middle grade and high school students in California and Texas.  “I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience!  Knowing that this age group is very egocentric, I choose topics that engage them and push their comfort limits.” Said Ramona.  From the many ways people around the world care for their dental hygiene to the origins of popular fast foods, students learn about their own culture and the cultures of others.  They find overall, people of the world are more similar than different.

There are many published papers on the reasoning for Diversity Training but no consensus on a single method of delivery.  Mrs. Winner has found that each of her audiences are unique in their need; each is looking for a different outcome.

Ramona has been speaking professionally to educators and students for 15years throughout the United States and abroad.   A world traveler, Ramona has visited 14 different countries around the world where she experienced many cultures.
