By: Shore Builders Association The Association has seen members come and go for many different reasons; however, as the economy continues to improve and membership applications continue to flow in, younger members in the association have increased in numbers as well. From third-generation builders to newer building companies that are owned and operated by young entrepreneurs, as well as building-related organizations with new-hires, the face of SBACNJ is changing, and change is good. According to James Pittenger, a third-generation builder located in Neptune, “The most valuable benefit as a member of SBACNJ is the relationships I have developed with other members, especially other builders.” Pittenger goes on to say, “Being a young professional in the world of construction and real estate development, it is greatly beneficial to be able to sit down and ‘talk shop’ with people who are considered the best in the industry.” James is not the only young professional finding value in his company’s membership. Another third-generation builder based in Whiting, Mike Kokes, sees a rebirth in the building industry and is on a quest to help mold the future of the Association for his and future generations. “Homes are the most valuable asset most people own. Having pre-vetted contractors and resources that our local homeowners can trust to help add value to their investment makes our Association invaluable to the community. If more builders and companies see the value and become members of SBACNJ, our organization will continue to grow and provide our local communities with the home improvement and building related products and services they need”, according to Kokes. While tradition and longevity are part of what multi-generational companies provide to the building association, newer companies led by younger entrepreneurs are also adding value through innovation and providing a new voice for the industry.
