By: International Food Wine and Travel Writers Assoc Chef Laurent shares, “The recipient of the scholarship was Kevin. “ Kevin” was selected for the following reasons: Kevin lost his father in 2012 by cancer and is in charge of his family; His mother only earns $200 a month with a small shop in her house, allowing her to take care of the kids while working. Kevin, the older son, is working in a restaurant while studying, to help his family; Kevin’s address is recognized for less expensive rents and poor population; Kevin’s attitude is outstanding: Students from the culinary school have found careers at the better restaurants of Lima, Peru; Barcelona and Madrid, Spain; and New Your City, New York. Other graduates are opening restaurants in and around San Salvador, El Salvador where the school of culinary arts is located. “Many people want to open restaurants, we give them the keys to do that,” explained the chef. The SCARTS School of Culinary Arts trains aspiring chefs in business practices and restaurant management as well as artistic forms of cooking. About IFWTWA: The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA), a non-profit organization, is a global network of journalists who cover the hospitality and lifestyle fields, and the people who promote them.
