Using Creative Expression to Grieve the Loss of a Pet

MN Pets offers ground-breaking workshop on dealing with death of a companion animal

MINNEAPOLIS - Feb. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- The loss of a companion animal can often leave people dealing with disenfranchised grief,  the notion that there is something strange or unusual about mourning  the death of a pet.   In fact,  it's very normal and common for people to significantly grieve the loss of a beloved animal companion and that’s why a unique workshop is being offered by MN Pets to help people move through this process using creative arts.

MN Pets is pleased to offer "Collage Workshop: Grieving The Loss of a Pet" on February 24th, 2014 from 6-9 pm at The University of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota. This one-of-its-kind workshop, facilitated by MN Pets professional counselor - Lisa Havelin, is free and open to the public. Visit online www.mnpets.com for information on registering.

Grief experiences are often “beyond words” and frequently cannot be adequately expressed with language alone, which is why creative expression can be such a wonderful alternative for personal insight and healing.  Through the use of collage as a visual language, this workshop will provide instruction and a safe environment in which participants will learn how to give a visual “voice” to their experience.  It is not an art class in the sense that it is not focused on producing an art object, rather it is a process-oriented, visual exploration designed as a means to further explore the meaning of and to honor the loss of a beloved animal companion.  No previous art experience necessary.

"In our work we hear from clients who are stuck and struggling at some point in their grief journey after the loss of a pet.  This workshop provides an intuitive, creative outlet, in a safe and supported environment, to explore their feelings of loss and move on in the grief process."  - Dr. Rebecca McComas, MN PETS
