Resolution of Trigeminal Neuralgia Following Subluxation Based Chiropractic Care

CHALFONT, Pa. - Feb. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- A recent article in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research reported on a study that documented the positive effects of chiropractic adjustments on a 40 year-old female with trigeminal neuralgia (TN).

         A 40 year-old female presented with right sided TN of six months duration.  Patient rated pain at 10++ out of 10 on the visual analog scale.  She had been taking prescriptions which included 15 analgesics including morphine, oxycontin, and percocet.

         “Chiropractic examination revealed upper cervical subluxations,” said Dr. Walker, Chalfont-based, D.C., who follows health and wellness issues closely in professional journals and other publications, “A-P and lateral cervical x-ray analysis determined right C-1 laterality and loss of cervical curve.”

“Trigeminal neuralgia, also known as Tic Doulourex or the ‘suicide disease’, is characterized by recurrent episodes of unilateral lancinating pain along the trigeminal nerve distribution usually on the right side of the face, “said Dr. Walker,“and is generally regarded as a condition as impossible to cure.”  After the patient’s first adjustment the pain resolved and patient discontinued use of medications.  After eight years of maintenance care, she has not experienced any relapse.

         “This case demonstrates a situation in which chiropractic care has helped a patient successfully manage the debilitating paroxysms of trigeminal neuralgia,” explained Dr. Walker, “and further research is advised to explore whether or not chiropractic should be the first intervention employed in treating TN.”
