WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Dec. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- A major textbook about the origins and internal culture of Wikipedia is presently being authored by Edward Buckner and E. A. Barbour. In the process of their studies of Wikipedia's ongoing problems with paid editors, they discovered a major scandal, which has been covered up in the past.

A notorious "diploma mill" in India, the Indian Institute of Planning and Management, has a very favorable Wikipedia article. The same can be said for the articles about its owner, businessman Arindam Chaudhuri, and related topics.

Buckner and Barbour have discovered why: all such articles are being controlled by a Wikipedia administrator called "Wifione". This apparent paid editor is not only operating with impunity to bias Wikipedia content, he is receiving at least tacit support from other Wikipedia administrators.

"Wifione" was suspected of being a previously disgraced administrator called "Nichalp", who was tossed out of Wikipedia for pushing his point of view. Yet he likely has returned, and this time gained adminship powers.

Wifione is not merely making certain articles positive. He is also using Wikipedia to defame Chaudhuri's enemies, openly.

Barbour will publish the findings on the Wikipediocracy blog today, in advance of their book. The blog can be found at:

Because of the recent scandal over editor "Morning277" and the firm Wiki-PR editing Wikipedia for money, this is a very timely related story, and it will likely result in headlines in the Indian media.
