WASHINGTON - Nov. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, DC – J. Dennis Hastert, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has joined the Board of Advisors of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

“The addition of Speaker Hastert to the AMAC team strengthens our ability to serve our more than one million members as we seek to challenge the emergence in recent years of a liberal legislative agenda that threatens progress and continuity in our country.  We are excited and exhilarated by the addition of the Speaker to our team,” Dan Weber, AMAC president, said in making the announcement today.

Hastert, who hails from Illinois, served eleven terms in Congress, from 1987 to 2007 and was the longest serving Republican Speaker in history, holding that position from 1999 to 2007.  Prior to his election to Congress he was a member of the Illinois State House of Representatives.  His background, including his service as a teacher, athletic coach and business owner, makes him eminently qualified to provide insight and counsel on a variety of topics important to AMAC and its growing membership, Weber noted.

“Hastert will offer advice on the wide range of issues for which he is a well-recognized expert and seasoned leader, from entitlement reform and the importance of fiscal responsibility to issues affecting health care, social security, veterans and the role of older Americans in the country’s future.  Perhaps his most important contribution to our mission will be his common sense approach to problem solving in an increasingly polarized world,” he said.

Weber offered a crisp assessment of AMAC’s remarkable growth to and beyond a million members, pointing out that AMAC has fast become the recognized conservative alternative and seasoned counter-voice to the liberal-leaning AARP.

“We just focus on what matters to older Americans, honestly, openly and directly, trying to make a difference and offer benefits that also make a difference in people’s lives.  We are, in many ways, just following the counsel and example provided by such American heroes as Ronald Reagan and Dennis Hastert, and by the Greatest Generation, to whom we owe our country’s real strength.”
