Jan's Paperbacks Joins Small Business Saturday with Indies First Movement

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Nov. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Jan’s Paperbacks is pleased to announce that it will be hosting 11 local authors as guest booksellers on Small Business Saturday, November 30.  Guest authors will be in the store all day chatting with customers and recommending their favorite books, including their latest releases.

Confirmed guest authors include: Phillip Margolin (legal thrillers), Minnette Meador (SciFi/Fantasy), Maggie Faire (YA Fantasy), Dakota Cassidy (Paranormal Romance), Maggie Jaimeson (Romantice Suspense), P.J. Cowan (Suspense), Jack Whitsel (Fantasy), Janel Josephson (Non Fiction), Gordon McFadden (Suspense), Baer Charlton (Children’s Fiction), Skye Genaro (Paranormal), and Lars D.H. Hedbor (YA Historical Fiction).

Hundreds of independent bookstores across the country will be hosting local authors this November 30, Small Business Saturday, thanks to a movement called Indies First. Launched by noted author Sherman Alexie, Indies First encourages authors to volunteer at their local store, to give back some of the support that independent bookstores have traditionally given to authors.

Indies First also encourages authors—and anybody who wants to sell a book through a website—to make the indie “Buy” button the FIRST among all e-retailer choices on their websites.

Other participating Indies First stores and authors may be found on IndieBound.org.

Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It is a day dedicated to helping support the local businesses that help to create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods.  Last year, U.S. consumers who were aware of Small Business Saturday reported spending $5.5 billion with independently-owned businesses on the day, based on the Small Business Saturday Insights Survey, making a big impact on local communities.

Jan’s Paperbacks is an independently owned bookstore specializing in selling and trading paperback books in-store as well as selling new and eBooks through their online store www.JansPaperbacks.com.  The store has been a staple in the Aloha community for over 30 years.
