Event volunteers joined celebrities in greeting shoppers, receiving donations and shopping for nonperishable food items to donate to this great cause. Smith’s Food & Drug the host site for the food drive for 15 years also gave a generous donation. Event supporters include KTNV TV-13, Pictographics, FOX-5, Paragon Pools, Jerry Metellus Photography, Inc. and the UNLV Lee Business School EMBA Program. To date, the yearly food drive has collected over 29 tons of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items. The Food Drive was recognized nationally in 2012 by the Make A Difference Day organizers: USA Magazine, the Points of Light and Newman’s Own Foundation as one of 10 notable projects from thousands held in 2011.
