15th Annual Food Drive collects over 4,700 lbs

LAS VEGAS - Nov. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Over 4,700 lbs. were collected at the 15^th Annual Food Drive benefiting the Salvation Army Food Bank held at the Summerlin Smith’s Food & Drug on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Philanthropist Mary Vail, OSG http://www.maryvailpublicist hosts the yearly drive as part of the national USA Weekend Magazine MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY, a nationwidecharity event.

Celebrities and local personalities lent their support for the cause making appearances throughout the day including: VegasDeluxe.com Celebrity Blogger Robin Leach, FOX-5 More Show Reporter Maria Silva, Community Activist Heidi Hayes, FOX-5 Chief Meteorologist Ted Pretty,  Design & Lifestyle Author Joseph Vassallo, CBP, ABC TV-13 News Anchor Cassie Smith,  Celebrity Photographer (Americas Next Top Model) Jerry Metellus and City of Las Vegas -Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony.  Event volunteers joined celebrities in greeting shoppers, receiving donations and shopping for nonperishable food items to donate to this great cause.

Smith’s Food & Drug the host site for the food drive for 15 years also gave a generous donation.  Event supporters include KTNV TV-13, Pictographics, FOX-5, Paragon Pools, Jerry Metellus Photography, Inc. and the UNLV Lee Business School EMBA Program.

To date, the yearly food drive has collected over 29 tons of non-perishable foods and personal hygiene items. The Food Drive was recognized nationally in 2012 by the Make A Difference Day organizers: USA Magazine, the Points of Light and Newman’s Own Foundation as one of 10 notable projects from thousands held in 2011.

The Salvation Army Food Bank services over 200 families a day, 52 weeks a year!
